The Sarasota School of Architecture

The Sarasota School of Architecture 1941-1966 by John Howey

If you are a fan of architecture, this book belongs in your library. The Sarasota School of Architecture 1941-1966 by John Howey, Princeton Architectural Press (1997) explores the talented, idealistic architects who were drawn to the Gulf Coast of Florida, and left a legacy of influential mid-century modern houses, churches, schools and commercial buildings in the Sarasota, Florida area. Mr Howey introduces us to Paul Rudolph, Ralph Twitchell, Philip Hiss, Mark Hampton, Victor Lundy, Gene Leedy, Tim Seibert, Bert Brosmith, Jack West, Carl Abbott, Frank Folsom Smith, William Zimmerman, Ralph Zimmerman, William Rupp and others who contributed to this important architectural movement.

Author and Architect John Howey lives in Tampa, Florida and continues his practice at John Howey & Associates.

Here is a recent photo I took during a visit with Mr Howey at Bay Villa Place, one of his award-winning projects (1978 AIA Tampa Award), in the Hyde Park area of Tampa, Florida, 2016. - Enjoy! -Martie
